Water After Massage

After a massage, I always will hand you a cup of water and make sure you drink it up. Do you know why?

Drinking water after a massage helps the body flush out any accumulated materials in the muscles which were released during the massage. Massage stimulates circulation in the body while expressing water, salt, and other minerals from the muscles, and circulation is designed to carry away waste materials generated by cells.

By providing the body with plenty of water, massage clients can help sweep away these waste materials. Water rehydrates your muscles, reducing the potential for pain and soreness in the days following a massage. For the same reason, people drink water after exercise and other forms of exertion, because when the muscles are worked, they lose water and electrolytes.

In the case of lymphatic massage, drinking water after a massage is especially important, as the stimulation of the lymphatic circulation system can generate a large release of wastes in the body. If one thinks of the lymph system as the sewer pipes of the body, collecting unwanted waste material and carrying it away for disposal, lymphatic massage is like a drain cleaner, and water helps flush the drain.

Many people also like to drink a glass of water after a massage because it helps bring them back down to earth. After a massage, people can feel a bit spacey and disoriented; having a glass of water while sitting on the massage table can help bring the body and mind back to the present, and it gives the client time to slowly return to the real world.

DID YOU KNOW?

When exposed to extreme temperatures-very hot or very cold-your body uses more water to maintain its normal temperature!
Greetings!

Water is as vital to every cell as proper nutrition, but how do you know if you're getting  enough? Most of us don't really know what dehydration looks like. As a result, it creeps in slowly and undetected until it becomes a chronic condition.

Chronic dehydration is a major, underlying cause of many common ailments and diminishes physical, visuomotor,
psychomotor,and cognitive performance.

The signs of chronic dehydration manifest themselves waterunder the guise of seemingly insignificant and/or unrelated ailments. Allergies (and even asthma) can be a symptom of chronic dehydration.Dehydration increases histamine levels, which causes the body to release cortisol, suppressing the production of white blood cells making the body vulnerable to allergens.

Chronic dehydration can also cause heartburn, gastro-esophageal reflux disorder (GERD), joint pain (due to dried out cartilage), kidney stones, depression, fatigue (Water is extremely important for energy production), constipation and digestive disorders, eczema (without adequate water your body cannot sweat enough water to dilute toxins), high cholesterol, and can even contribute to obesity!

Everyone needs purified a supply of purified water
(re-mineralized, distilled water is best as dehydration causes both a shortage of water and minerals). Drinking water a half-hour before eating will also help digestion, easing its effect on your cells.

  THE HUMAN TOUCH

It seems as if the Human Touch is simply no longer a part of our everyday lives. We are afraid to touch others. We aren't willing to accept, much less appreciate, the close proximity of another. We simply don't know how.
In crowded spaces, we physically retreat from this most basic human involvement.

But we all have a deep need to be touched. We all want to feel the warmth of a hand on our shoulder after a long day, or a gentle stroke on our head in moments of difficulty.

It is scientifically proven that babies and children grow to be much healthier when they have had the chance to experience loving touch. For seniors too, the physiological effects of touch benefit the body greatly. It can help them to cope with the loss of their partners and friends, and to establish a strong bond with their families.

A soothing neck or hand massage from a grandchild can make a world of difference. Touch is the first sense to develop and is still active even when sight or hearing is lost. It gives us a sense of reality. As Bertrand Russell wrote: "Not only our geometry and our physics but our whole conception of what exists outside us, is based on the sense of touch."

When we touch, we communicate on a profound level. We become aware of our physicality but also feel a deep sense of belonging. We reach the core of our existence, and communicate beyond language.
